Joseph Industrial Shipyard & Drydock facilities are in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. For your stay there is a variety of accommodations nearby. We recommend hotels located in the Colonial Zone or also in the Malecon ( Seaside area ), since they are closer. If you consider the downtown area, there are also great hotels in the area.

 For getting around the city and going to the shipyard, we recommend taxis from the hotel or as another option UBER. There is also the option to rent a car, but local traffic is challenging. In case you need more specialized transportation there are VIP companies that carry drivers and specialized vehicles. 

Santo Domingo has a variety of great restaurants that offer international gastronomies but we also encourage to taste the local food, with dishes like the popular Sancocho, Mofongo among others. There are good reastaurants near the shipyard as well as delivery services.

Besides its warm people, Dominican Republic is known for its worldwide recognition of excellent coffee, rum, cocoa and cigars. 

Also you can search for jewelry specially one containing the Larimar stone, which is a stone that is only found in the grounds of the Dominican Republic, specifically in the southwest of the country in Barahona province.  Most of all this products you can get near the shipyard in the Colonial Zone.

Dominican Republic has many things to offer if you have time to spend besides being in the shipyard. Near the shipyard you can find the Colonial Zone, which is considered the first city in the new world. This historic place has buildings and infrastructures of the 14th -15th century including the Cathedral, first in America, Diego Colon’s house, the Fortaleza Ozama, among others. In this area you can find stores, museums, restaurants, bars, hotels, etc. Also nearby you can find the Malecon, which is a walkway parallel to the Caribbean sea. You can also find beautiful beaches, mountains, rivers etc. 

Dominican Republic has many international airports. The closest and most convenient for getting to the shipyard would be the Las Americas airport (SDQ)  which is located about 40 Kilometers (30 min drive) from the city of Santo Domingo.
